Introduction
“Hall of Faith”
Romans 10:9 NKJV
that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.
Hebrews 3:12 NKJV
Beware, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief in departing from the living God;
Hebrews 3:14 NKJV
For we have become partakers of Christ if we hold the beginning of our confidence steadfast to the end,
Belief.
πίστις pistis “To believe to the extent of complete trust and reliance.”

But we are not of those who draw back to perdition, but of those who believe to the saving of the soul.

Holy Spirit inspired description of faith.
2 Samuel 15:15 NKJV
And the king’s servants said to the king, “We are your servants, ready to do whatever my lord the king commands.”
2 Samuel 15:25–26 NKJV
Then the king said to Zadok, “Carry the ark of God back into the city. If I find favor in the eyes of the Lord, He will bring me back and show me both it and His dwelling place. But if He says thus: ‘I have no delight in you,’ here I am, let Him do to me as seems good to Him.”
Obey God’s Word and believe Him to do what is right and what is best.
The object of our faith is God.
ὑπόστασις hypostasis “to support.”
ἔλεγχος elenchos “conviction.”

Abel also brought of the firstborn of his flock and of their fat. And the Lord respected Abel and his offering, but He did not respect Cain and his offering. And Cain was very angry, and his countenance fell. So the Lord said to Cain, “Why are you angry? And why has your countenance fallen? If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin lies at the door. And its desire is for you, but you should rule over it.” Now Cain talked with Abel his brother; and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother and killed him. Then the Lord said to Cain, “Where is Abel your brother?” He said, “I do not know. Am I my brother’s keeper?” And He said, “What have you done? The voice of your brother’s blood cries out to Me from the ground.
Righteous because of faith.
Matthew 23:35 NKJV
that on you may come all the righteous blood shed on the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah, son of Berechiah, whom you murdered between the temple and the altar.
1 John 3:12 NKJV
not as Cain who was of the wicked one and murdered his brother. And why did he murder him? Because his works were evil and his brother’s righteous.

Abraham.
“A father of many nations.”

Genesis 17:4 NKJV
“As for Me, behold, My covenant is with you, and you shall be a father of many nations.
Genesis 22:18 NKJV
In your seed all the nations of the earth shall be blessed, because you have obeyed My voice.”
“By faith Abraham … obeyed.”
Romans 4:13 NKJV
For the promise that he would be the heir of the world was not to Abraham or to his seed through the law, but through the righteousness of faith.
Hebrews 11:13 NKJV
These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off were assured of them, embraced them and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.

In Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and Joseph, we have 4 generations of faith.

The LXX: both parents hid Moses … the Hebrew only reports the mother.
v30-31
Joshua 2:11 NKJV
And as soon as we heard these things, our hearts melted; neither did there remain any more courage in anyone because of you, for the Lord your God, He is God in heaven above and on earth beneath.
Her faith was a working faith.
James 2:25–26 NKJV
Likewise, was not Rahab the harlot also justified by works when she received the messengers and sent them out another way? For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.
v32-40
Not all men and women of faith experienced miraculous deliverance.
Some were tortured and killed.
ἕτερος heteros “others of a different kind.”

People of faith have confidence that God’s will is good.

being defamed, we entreat. We have been made as the filth of the world, the offscouring of all things until now.
