Matthew 28:8 So they went out quickly from the tomb with fear and great joy, and ran to bring His disciples word.
Mark says they went quickly and Matthew says they “Ran to bring His disciples word” …
It is such a wonderful thing to share God’s Word with one another.
Whenever I’m teaching it’s like I’m just showing what God is teaching me, and I take so much joy in sharing … it’s the highlight of my week, every week on Sunday morning, in addition to the midweek.
And there is also the Ladies Prayer Meeting, the Men’s Breakfast, Show and Tell the World, Nursing Home Ministry and more … Times when we get to sit down and talk about the Bible together, pray together, or go out and share … and it’s just fun.
But some people make a conscious decision not to be filled. They stay at home instead of going to church. They skip the prayer meetings and breakfasts and they don’t have their own devotion time. It’s no surprise, then, when they don’t show up for outreaches like Show and Tell the World. It’s no fun to them because they have neglected getting filled.
Position yourself to be filled with the good things of God and then position yourself to spill those things out into the lives of others.
Matthew 12:34 “For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.” – Jesus
It’s a fact that in order to overflow, we have to be filled and to be filled, we have to put ourself where we will be filled.
I’ve worked just about any job you can think of. I’ve worked at a racquet club, I’ve worked at a video store, I’ve worked at a fast food restaurant, I’ve worked at two different theaters doing projection, tickets, concessions … I’ve even worked on archaeological surveys and digs. I’ve worked as a musician, as a stage hand, as a video store clerk, as a pizza maker, and a dish washer. I’ve worked as a land surveyor. I’ve worked in a Research and Development Lab, and on a drill crew. I’ve worked in a shredding company and a sign shop. I’ve worked as a video editor, as an assisting pastor and now as a senior pastor. It sounds crazy, but I’m sure I’ve left something out. I never will forget one day working for the drill crew and being asked to drive the water truck. I don’t know if you’ve ever seen one of the water trucks that is used at Rock Quarries, they are HUGE with a capital “H”. I managed my way into the cab, and warily made my way to the other side of the quarry where there was a little water tower with a little spout coming out the side. You would think they would put a much larger hole on the tank of those trucks. So, there I went, back and forth. Am I lined up with the pipe? No. Try again. Over and over, it went like this … Trucks were stopping and people were getting out to watch me. I’m pretty sure people were placing wagers. But that wasn’t the end. Once I had managed to fill the tank, I had to get the truck back to the drill rig and positioned just right to empty it’s load where we were drilling. At the end of the day, I was exhausted, and I slept very well that night.
We have to position ourselves to be filled. It’s a choice we face every day and there are many different spouts we can park our truck under. As Christians, many of those spouts we have no business receiving from. We must be wise, insuring that we are receiving from a good spout … And a church where the Bible is taught verse by verse is a very good spout. Once we are filled, we have to position ourselves to be emptied. That might be at a church outreach or it might be at work or school. At the end of the day, a water truck must be emptied, because a water truck with a full tank that never empties eventually becomes rank like a septic tank.
What new spiritual truth has God revealed to you this week? Find someone to share it with. What has you excited about following Jesus? Find someone to share it with. Find ways to pour out. Maybe you have to get creative. Okay. Our Father in Heaven is creative. Get creative. Pour out. If you aren’t being filled, then find a spout that is putting out (so to speak), then go and overflow.
